A periodontist is a dentist who specialises in the treatment of gum diseases, gum surgery and the placement of dental implants.
Becoming a periodontist involves studying 5 years to be a dentist, working as a general dentist for at least 2 years before returning to university for a 3 year full time specialist training program.
Dr Susan Wise
Dr Susan Wise graduated as a dentist from the University of Melbourne in 1994. She worked as a general dentist for 5 years before moving to Brisbane in 2000. Susan studied periodontics a the University of Queensland and was awarded a Masters of Dental Science (Periodontics) in 2002. She moved to Sydney in 2003 and worked as a specialist periodontist and returned to Melbourne in 2005 to set up her specialist periodontal practice in McKinnon.
Susan has been a demonstrator for and examined undergraduate and postgraduate students in periodontics as well as an examiner for overseas trained dentists.
Susan is currently the President of the Australian Dental Association Victorian branch. She is a past President of the Victorian branch of the Australian Society of Periodontology.
Dr Kate Burgess
Dr Kate Burgess commenced her training as a dentist at the University of Birmingham before emigrating to Perth and graduating as a dentist from the University of Western Australia in 2007.
Kate spent a year working within the Aboriginal medical service in rural and remote regions of WA. Kate subsequently worked as a general dentist in the regional Western Australian town of Mandurah.
Kate moved to Melbourne in 2011 to study for her Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontics at the University of Melbourne. She graduated as a Specialist Periodontist in 2013.
Quynh completed her Diploma in Oral Health Therapy (Dental Hygiene) at the University of Melbourne in 2005. Prior to this she completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Monash University as well as working for many years as a dental assistant. Quynh has worked as a dental hygienist in a city periodontal practice, general practice and now in a part time at our practice. Quynh brings a wealth of experience to our practice with an attention to detail that ensures patients receive the best hygiene treatment possible with a great smile and sensitive approach.
Hung completed his Bachelor of Oral Heath from the University of Adelaide in 2008. Following his graduation he worked for a number of years as a Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist Canberra. Hung adds an uplifting enthusiasm to our practice with excellent patient rapport and a strong focus of listening and providing the best care for his patients.
Ms Sumaya Hassan
Sumaya completed her Bachelor of Oral Health from the University of Melbourne in 2016. Sumaya worked in the retail sector for many years prior to graduation. Sumaya has wonderful clinical and communication skills and is very gentle and caring. Sumaya also works as a dental therapist in the public sector.
Sam has been working at South Eastern Periodontics and Implants since 2011. With experience in a wide range of customer relation roles he is committed to ensuring our patients and referring dentists receive friendly and efficient care.
Alisha started as a trainee dental assistant at South Eastern Periodontics and Implants in 2010 and is now our Senior Dental Assistant. Alisha is very meticulous particularly with infection control. Alisha previously worked for a number of years in aged and disability care.
Emily also started as a trainee dental assistant at South Eastern Periodontics and Implants. Emily is very enthusiastic about dental assisting particularly assisting for implant and periodontal surgery.
